Detroit City FC closes out its sixth National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season this Friday night when it takes on Lansing United at Keyworth Stadium. Le Rouge will look to get back on track and gain momentum with the playoffs quickly approaching.
The clubs first meeting of 2017 was in East Lansing last Sunday afternoon when Le Rouge took home the victory, 2-1, in come-from-behind fashion. Goalscorers for Detroit were Shawn Lawson (‘45) and Cyrus Saydee (‘57), with assists from Bakie Goodman and Tyrone Mondi.
The victory secured the second NPSL Great Lakes Division playoff spot for DCFC (9-2-2, W-T-L). Detroit is in second place in the Great Lakes Division with 29 points and AFC Ann Arbor (10-1-1) is in first with 31 points.
Lansing (6-0-6) sits in fourth place with 18 points. Since starting the season 6-0-1, United has dropped its last five matches.
Detroit lost to Ann Arbor, 3-1, on Tuesday night, hurting its chances of winning the division and ending its nine-game win streak. A win against Lansing and two Ann Arbor defeats would be Detroit’s only way to claim the division crown.
Though Lansing will work to get back on track and end its season on a high note, Detroit will be looking to gain some crucial momentum as the playoffs loom just over a week away.
