Detroit City FC takes on Milwaukee Torrent this Sunday afternoon at Hart Park in Milwaukee, WI., at 4 PM ET.
Detroit will not only be looking for its sixth straight league win, but also a potential move into second place in the division.
The two clubs drew their first meeting, 3-3, at Keyworth Stadium in DCFC’s NPSL home opener on May 12. Detroit’s Max Todd equalized in the 96th minute of play to earn a point for Le Rouge.
Milwaukee (2-4-4, 10 points) is coming off a 0-0 tie Friday night against Michigan Stars FC. After Friday’s results, the Torrent currently sit one place behind third-place DCFC.
City (5-2-1, 17 points) won its last match against Kalamazoo FC, 2-1, on Friday night to keep City undefeated in its last five league matches. Man of the Match Elijah Rice, who made his City debut in the 65th minute, became the hero of the night with the game-winning goal in the 67th minute.
The other Le Rouge strike came in the 30th minute when Roddy Green sent one in off an assist from Bakie Goodman to put City up, 1-0.
Head coach Ben Pirmann will a few have choices to make about who to start Sunday, depending on how the team recovers. With Detroit’s depth, however, he sees no problem in rotating the roster in Milwaukee.
“We’ve got to regroup – that’s step one of four,” Pirmann said in a postgame interview on Friday. “We’ve got to regroup for step two Sunday in Milwaukee – make sure we get some rest. We’re gonna have to rotate some guys and get creative here.”
DCFC is currently one point behind Lansing United. If Lansing tie or lose on Saturday, Detroit could overtake them in the standings with a win in Milwaukee.
Though it’s a quick turnaround, Le Rouge look to extend their winning streak to six, and, more importantly, remain in the playoff hunt.
