Detroit City FC faces FC Indiana in Lafayette, Indiana, at Legacy Sports Club in another must-win match at 2 p.m. today. Le Rouge will look to extend their win streak to three after victories against Glentoran FC and Grand Rapids FC in the last week.
Detroit City FC most recently defeated Grand Rapids FC, 3-1, in front of 5,154 supporters to pick up their first National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) victory of the season Friday night at Keyworth Stadium.
Louis Dargent, Shawn Lawson and Derrick Otim each scored for City, with Lawson’s ending up as the game-winner. Bakie Goodman, Tyrone Mondi and David Edwardson each contributed as well with assists.
In a post game interview, Head Coach Ben Pirmann said the team played with desire and were able to push each other.
“We played with more desire, more energy,” Pirmann said. “It was nothing tactical just pure effort. We’ve got some new guys that are pushing. And that makes some of the older guys return and play harder.”
Detroit is 1-2-1 (W-T-L) and has five points through four league games. They currently sit two spots ahead of Indiana in the Great Lakes Division. Indiana’s record is 1-0-3 with a total of three points in the division.
The two clubs have never met before. Indiana was founded in 2000 and currently play in the Premier Arena Soccer League as well as the NPSL. They played last season in the Great Lakes East Division of the NPSL and finished 0-2-8.
FC Indiana, managed by Erik Castro, is most recently coming of a 1-0 home loss to Lansing United. Their other results include a 5-0 loss to Lansing, 8-2 loss to Michigan Stars FC and a 2-0 win over Kalamazoo FC.
Pirmann said he’s encouraged by the team’s current run of form, but he’s committed to earning a result on Sunday.
“A little training and travel tomorrow then we’ve got a big one on Sunday,” Pirmann said. “One game at a time. The next one’s on Sunday against a tough team on the road. Tough field, tough environment – we’ll go from there.
City will look to keep the momentum going as they close out the weekend against FC Indiana this Sunday.
