Detroit City FC is back to work this Friday night at Keyworth Stadium to take on Grand Rapids FC at 7:30 p.m.
Through three league games, Le Rouge is 0-2-1 (W-T-L). Grand Rapids are off to a 2-1-1 start and are five points ahead of Detroit. Their most recent result was a 2-1 loss to AFC Ann Arbor on Monday.
Last Saturday night, City earned its first victory of the season in an international friendly match against Glentoran FC, 1-0, thanks to Tyler Moorman’s goal in the 86th minute.
City goalkeeper Colin Miller, who started the game against Glentoran, said the win took a weight off the team’s back. DCFC will be looking to build off their success ahead of Friday’s match.
“The game versus Glentoran was our most collective team effort,” Miller said. “It was definitely a step in the right direction for us and we’re going to build off that. Hopefully it’ll get the ball rolling.”
The two clubs played each other for the first time last summer, meeting twice in the regular season. City lost 5-2 at Grand Rapids and tied 0-0 at home.
Miller added training has been intense, with all players working hard and buying into the process head coach Ben Pirmann talks about.
“The guys have been on board,” Miller said. “Ben keeps telling us trust the process and keep working. We buy into that. It is coming together nicely and we’re looking forward to earning a win Friday.”
