Detroit City FC will welcome Venezia FC, of Venice, Italy, for an international friendly at Keyworth Stadium on Tuesday, July 18 at 7:30 PM.
The international match is presented by Quicken Loans and the Detroit Pistons.
The friendly marks Venezia’s first-ever match in the United States.
Founded in 1907, Venezia is coming off one of the most successful seasons in its history, including winning Lega Pro, the third division of Italian soccer, thereby earning promotion to Serie B, and winning the Coppa Italia championship.
Venezia is managed by Italian soccer legend Filippo Inzaghi. Inzaghi took over the management of Venezia FC in June of 2016 after a prolific career as a player with AC Milan and Juventus, where he scored the fourth most goals in the history of European Club competitions.
Tickets for the Venezia match will cost $15 and will be available to the general public on Tuesday, May 23 at tickets.https://www.detcityfc.com. Admission to the July 18th match is free for all Detroit City FC season ticket holders.
DCFC season tickets are still available for $60 at detcityfcstore.com.
The match will be Detroit City FC’s second international friendly of the season. Detroit City FC hosts Glentoran FC of Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Saturday, May 27 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Detroit’s first professional soccer team, the Detroit Cougars, which was comprised of players from Glentoran. The DCFC International Series match presented by Strategic Staffing Solutions kicks off at 7:30 PM.
“It means a lot to us that a surging European club like Venezia FC would choose Detroit City FC for their first ever American match,” DCFC co-owner Sean Mann said. “They have an incredible history and a legendary manager. For our club to host Venezia at Keyworth will be a wonderful experience for our club and community, and a tremendous opportunity to raise the profile of each club on both sides of the Atlantic.”
“VFC is thrilled to be playing DCFC in its first ever match on American soil,” said Joe Tacopina, VFC’s President. “Venice is the world’s most beautiful and wonderfully unique city and we are proud to represent it. We are the first Italian team in 56 years to move from the fourth division to the second division in just two years. But the best is yet to come, and coming to Detroit to play DCFC is exciting evidence of VFC’s global appeal.”

About Venezia FC: Founded in 1907, the roots of the Venezia Football Club are very deep and indeed are at the core of the birth of Italian football. After struggling for many years, the Club was acquired in 2015 by Joe Tacopina — formerly President of Bologna Football Club and Vice President of A.S. Roma. Giorgio Perinetti, one of the most important Italian sports directors, joined Tacopina immediately and legendary Italian player Filippo Inzaghi came on as coach prior to the 2016-17 season. Since Tacopina’s acquisition, the team has “risen from the ashes” by winning two consecutive league championships — becoming the first Italian side in 56 years to be promoted from the 4th division to the 2nd (Serie B) in just two years — and the 2016-17 Coppa Italia championship. And, on May 27 the Club can add a fourth trophy in just over a year with a win or draw at home in its second match of the Super Coppa (having won its first match on the road on May 13).
