Head coach Ben Pirmann has announced his technical staff for Detroit City FC’s 2017 season.
Pirmann will be joined on the sidelines by Jordan Andrews (Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development), Klaas de Boer (Technical Advisor), Bret Mollon (Assistant Coach and Director of Goalkeeping) and Josh Rogers (Assistant Coach).
Returning for his fifth season at the helm, Pirmann has amassed a 32-10-11 (W-L-T) record in his time with City. Pirmann, who has also served as an assistant coach with the Michigan State University men’s soccer program since 2010, is ready for the upcoming DCFC season alongside his new and returning staff.
“I am very excited to retain our staff from last year as well as add an invaluable advisor in Klaas de Boer,” Pirmann said. “Our players have access to some great resources this summer and I am very proud to have such a hard working group of men who will be as passionate about DCFC as our supporters.”
As the newest addition to the City technical staff, de Boer boasts an extensive soccer résumé, having played collegiate soccer at Michigan State University before playing in the American Soccer League for seven years for the Cleveland Cobras and Boston Astros. He was head coach of Cleveland State University from 1972-1977, and compiled a 55-25-3 record, while being named NSCAA Coach of the Year in 1977. After his time with Cleveland State, de Boer was named assistant coach of the Detroit Express, where he stayed for two years before joining the Los Angeles Aztecs’ coaching staff.
Currently, he is a scout for US Soccer, identifying players between the ages of 11 and 18 for the US Soccer Development Academy.
Jordan Andrews, who is an assistant coach with Finlandia University’s men’s and women’s soccer programs, returns to the City coaching staff after serving as a volunteer assistant in 2016.
Mollon and Rogers, both former City players, also return for the 2017 season. Mollon, who works alongside Pirmann at MSU, played three seasons between the pipes for Le Rouge. Rogers, who played with Pirmann at MSU from 2005-2008, was City’s captain from 2012-2015.
