Detroit City FC is pleased to announce head coach Ben Pirmann will return in 2017.
City co-owners recently met with Pirmann, and both sides look forward to working together to building a championship team in his fifth season at the helm.
Head coach since 2013, Pirmann has shepherded the team through four successful campaigns, leading Le Rouge to a 32-10-11 record in National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) play.
In 2016, Pirmann coached City to a 4-4-4 record in the NPSL Great Lakes West Conference. DCFC advanced to the second round of the 2016 U.S. Open Cup after defeating the Michigan Bucks in penalty kicks in the first round. City lost by a slim margin to USL side Louisville City FC in another PK shootout in the following round. Pirmann led the team to the playoffs in his first year and again in 2015. Also in Pirmann’s inaugural year, the Boys in Rouge went undefeated in regular season action. City has retained the Rust Belt Derby trophy throughout Pirmann’s four-year tenure.
Pirmann’s primary coaching job is as an assistant coach for the Michigan State University men’s soccer team, where he works alongside former Le Rouge coach Cale Wassermann and current City goalkeeping coach, Bret Mollon.
“We appreciate Ben’s commitment to this club and the passion and talent he bring to his role,” co-owner Sean Mann said. “We’re committed to working together to putting a team on the field in 2017 worthy of the best supporters in the country, and win the hardware they rightfully deserve.”
