Detroit City FC (4-4-3) wraps up its 2016 regular season at Keyworth Stadium when Michigan Stars FC (4-4-3) visits for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday night.
Le Rouge will be hosting Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI). There will be a clinic for SOMI athletes before the game from 4-5 p.m. Then, at halftime of the match, the athletes will get to play a game of their own in front of the Keyworth crowd.
The Boys in Rouge began their National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) regular season against the Stars back on May 13 with a 2-2 draw at Wisner Stadium in Pontiac.
City took a 2-0 lead into halftime that night, thanks to Andre Morris (Michigan) and Tyler Stephens (Saginaw Valley State), who headed in corners from Ali Al-Gashamy (Gardner-Webb) and Cyrus Saydee (Michigan State), respectively.
The Stars’ Joe Coombs headed in a pair of his own in the second half to knot the score, 2-2, for good.
The Stars are coming off a 3-1 win over Dayton Dynamo on July 8.
With injuries continuing to pile up and some players having to depart for camps and school responsibilities, head coach Ben Pirmann will have to dig deep into his roster of players, as he has been doing for the past two weeks.
“Guys are hurt. It’s just the way it is; too many games in the summer in such little time,” said Pirmann after Sunday’s fate-sealing 3-1 loss in Lansing.
Tied in the Great Lakes West conference standings with 16 points each, both teams will be looking for three points to help secure a third-place finish.
Tickets for the match are still available here for just $10.
