Detroit City FC (4-2-4) has two matches on its schedule this week.
The Columbus Crew College Program visits Keyworth Stadium for a mid-week friendly on Wednesday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. Then, Sunday, July 10, Le Rouge hits the road again for a noon kickoff against Lansing United (3-3-4).
Fresh off a grueling four-point holiday weekend, City will be relieved to play a non-competitive match while tuning up for Lansing. With the injury bug making its way around the locker room, the friendly provides head coach Ben Pirmann an opportunity to mix training squad players into his lineup – preparing for them to step in, if needed, down the stretch.
Last year, the Crew came to Cass Tech and handed their hosts a 3-1 loss. Tyler Channell (Saginaw Valley State) scored the lone City goal.
After the Crew friendly, City travels to Michigan State University’s DeMartin Stadium for a tough away test against Lansing United. Earlier in the season, on June 12, Lansing scored goals in the second half to earn a 2-2 result at Keyworth. Tommy Catalano (Oakland) and Jeff Adkins (Butler) were the DCFC goal-scorers that afternoon.
“We gifted them one goal and I give Lansing credit,” Pirmann said. “They didn’t give up.”
Since the first meeting, Le Rouge has a 3-0-1 record, having outscored opponents 9-1 in the last four games, combined.
After last weekend’s results, the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Great Lakes West table is now tighter than ever.
“Obviously, Lansing’s going to be tough on their field. We haven’t won there,” noted Pirmann.
With just three home matches remaining, time is running out to experience Detroit City FC’s historic inaugural season at Keyworth Stadium. Tickets for Wednesday’s match are still available here.
