Detroit City FC picked up a point in the NPSL standings, drawing Lansing United, 2-2, Sunday evening.
Tommy Catalano (Oakland) scored in the 33rd minute to give City its 1-0 halftime lead. Once Cyrus Saydee (Michigan State) shoveled him the ball at the top of the box, Catalano was able to find some space and power it home.
Jeff Adkins (Butler) continued his run of excellent form, scoring on a rebound chance in the 79th minute to retake the lead for Le Rouge. Danny Deakin (South Carolina) took home M1 Imaging Man of the Match honors for his strong build-up play in the midfield.
DCFC enjoyed a majority of the possession and the chances in both halves. Full backs Zach Schewee (Bowling Green) and TJ Stephens (Saginaw Valley State) were integral parts of the City attack, providing some width and speed up the sides.
Lansing scored to tie it twice in the second half. Following a corner in the 47th minute, James DeCosemo emerged from a pile-up in front of the net to bang it in, 1-1.
Four minutes after Adkins’ goal, Alec Greene found himself wide open in the penalty area and blasted one past Nate Steinwascher (Detroit Mercy) to level the score, 2-2.
City had a few chances in the closing minutes, but couldn’t muster a game-winner.
Head coach Ben Pirmann spoke after the match.
“We gifted them one goal and I give Lansing credit, they didn’t give up,” he said. “They worked their tails off. Nate (Miller) does a really good job coaching them.
On next weekend against Kalamazoo, “I mean, normally I would say we have to attack, but I don’t think that’s our problem. We have to re-group.”
Le Rouge takes the field next Sunday, June 19 against Kalamazoo FC at Keyworth Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tickets for the match are available here.
