Detroit City FC dives back into its National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Great Lakes West schedule with two matches this weekend.
Friday night at 7:45 p.m., Le Rouge (1-2-1) travels to play Grand Rapids FC (2-2-1). Sunday evening at 5 p.m., Lansing United (1-3-1) visits Keyworth Stadium.
This weekend provides an opportunity for City to pick up points in the standings. Having played only four games in the league, City finds itself sitting sixth in the table with five points. Grand Rapids’ eight points have them in third place and Lansing is in fifth place, one point ahead of Le Rouge.
This will be DCFC’s first match against Grand Rapids FC, which played its only season in the Great Lakes Premier League last year with fellow NPSL-newcomer AFC Ann Arbor. In five league games, GRFC has played only once at home, picking up at least one point every time out except at Ann Arbor.
Lansing United makes its first trip to Keyworth Stadium for Sunday’s match. Last summer, Le Rouge beat Lansing, 1-0, at Cass Tech to take sole possession of first place after falling, 3-1, at Lansing a month earlier. City is 2-1-1 all-time against Lansing United.
Like Grand Rapids, Lansing has also gotten a point in all but one match so far. The two tied each other, 1-1, last Friday.
Detroit is coming off a Rust Belt Derby championship weekend after defeating FC Buffalo, 2-1, on aggregate.
This weekend, City will look to avenge its last league match, a 3-2 loss at Kalamazoo on Sunday, May 22, en route to six points.
