Detroit City FC is returning to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the third consecutive year.
The United States Soccer Federation today announced DCFC received an at-large bid for the 103rd edition of the tournament.
City will represent the National Premier Soccer League along with 15 other NPSL clubs. While DCFC’s match is set for May 11, the location and opponent – which will be determined on a geographic basis – will be announced in early April.
In last year’s first round, City were defeated by PDL side Michigan Bucks, 3-0. In 2014, City lost in heartbreaking fashion, falling to Chicago-based club RWB Adria on penalty kicks.
