On Thursday, October 29, from 7-9 p.m., at the Fowling Warehouse in Hamtramck, Detroit City FC will unveil a groundbreaking community investment campaign to fund rehabilitation work to the team’s new home, Keyworth Stadium.
The “Keyworth Kickoff” is presented by the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers, and is open to Michigan residents only. The event will begin with free fowling lanes available to registered participants from 7 to 8 p.m., with the campaign launch and a Q&A with Detroit City FC owners afterward.
The investment campaign, which is Michigan’s largest community investment project to date, will raise the necessary amount of funding to make the 79-year-old Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck the new home of Detroit City FC in 2016 and beyond.
In September 2015, the Hamtramck School Board approved a lease with Detroit City FC that would see the club fund renovation work at Keyworth Stadium. Upon the first phase of renovation the stadium capacity will be 6,000, and the facility will remain the property of Hamtramck Public Schools. Detroit City FC would retain the right to host 25 games and community events throughout the year over the course of a 10-year lease agreement. Hamtramck Public School sports teams will still have regular access to the stadium throughout this time.
After experiencing sold-out crowds in its first four seasons at Cass Tech High School field, Detroit City FC looks to continue its growth at Keyworth.
“The success of the 2015 season saw us turning away people at the gates. It was a clear sign DCFC is ready to take the next step, and grow as an organization. Come spring of 2016, Keyworth Stadium will be the home field both our supporters and the residents of Hamtramck deserve. On our way to saving history, Michigan residents will have the opportunity to make history, by joining us to complete what we believe to be the largest community-financed project in US sports history,” said DCFC co-owner Alex Wright.
