Detroit City FC will return home to Cass Tech High School on Saturday, September 19 for a special benefit match to help grow the beautiful game in the Motor City and Detroit Public Schools.
The second annual DPS Showcase will feature a full night of soccer in support of the Cass Tech and Detroit Renaissance high school boys soccer programs. The night will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with the Cass Tech Technicians hosting the Detroit Renaissance Phoenix in a regular-season showdown; then, Le Rouge will face Ann Arbor FC in a friendly match at 7:30 p.m.
A portion of the proceeds from the soccer doubleheader will be donated to the high school soccer programs, and tickets are only $5. In the inaugural DPS Showcase last September, Le Rouge raised more than $2,500. City played to a 2-2 draw against Ann Arbor FC, while Cass Tech defeated Renaissance, 5-2. Throughout its unforgettable 2015 season, DCFC established itself as Detroit’s soccer team, enjoying success on and off the pitch. And as a result of the efforts of DCFC and its supporters, the future is bright for soccer in the city.
DCFC builds on already strong ties with Cass Tech through the Showcase, investing thousands of dollars into improving Cass Tech field, a benefit to both the soccer and football teams. City also presented the Cass Tech girls soccer program with new uniforms in 2014.
Beyond the confines of its home pitch, DCFC’s commitment to the sport increases. This season, the team worked with the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers to host a series of free youth clinics throughout the Metro Detroit area. In addition, Le Rouge teamed up with Henry Ford Health System to provide clinics and free tickets for Detroit PAL youth soccer participants, while DCFC, Flagstar Bank and the Community Development Advocates of Detroit (CDAD) worked to treat residents of different Detroit neighborhoods with free transportation, tickets and giveaways at every home match. DCFC also operates the Detroit City Futbol League, an open, recreational, co-ed league that plays games at Historic Fort Wayne; dedicated to connecting Detroit residents who share a passion for soccer and their neighborhoods, and involving thousands of players since its inception in 2010.
