Michigan State: Kylie Stannard and Ben Pirmann’s Spartans beat Indiana in their regular-season finale on Wednesday. The Big Ten Tournament kicked off this weekend, and Michigan State eked out a 1-0 win over Penn State to advance to the semifinals. That match will be played at 3:40 p.m. on Nov. 14 against Maryland. If the Spartans (4-2-2 Big Ten, 11-4-4 overall) win, the championship game is set for Nov. 16 at a time that has yet to be determined.
Michigan: The Wolverines (3-3-2 Big Ten, 6-9-3) played their archrival, Ohio State, on Wednesday and Sunday this week. Both times — first in the regular-season finale and in the Big Ten Quarterfinals — Michigan lost. Colin McAtee, William Mellors-Blair andTyler Arnone combined for seven shots in the 1-0, quarterfinal loss. Nick Lewin made the start in both Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat as well as Sunday’s disappointing result. After being knocked out of the Big Ten Tournament, the Wolverines’ season is likely over.
Saginaw Valley State: After beating Tiffin 2-1 in the GLIAC semifinals on Friday, the Cardinals (9-3-2 GLIAC, 13-4-2) dropped a 1-0 decision to Northwood in Sunday’s championship match. Aleksander Isaevski recorded assists on both SVSU goals in Friday’s victory. Michael Lamb, Zach Vasold and Craig Neal all played hefty minutes over the weekend. The Cardinals’ will find out tonight at 7:30 p.m. if their season will continue into the 35-team NCAA Division II men’s soccer tournament.
Butler: In order to qualify for the Big East Tournament, the Bulldogs (2-5-2 Big East, 6-7-5) needed a win at No. 14 Xavier on Friday. Butler hung in for all of 27 minutes, but ultimately lost 2-0. Jeff Adkins had one shot in the defeat, but finished the season as one of the team’s top scorers with 13 points (5g, 3a).
Western Michigan: On Saturday, the Broncos finished their regular season schedule with a 2-1 loss to West Virginia. Connor Furgason was not in the starting 11, but Sean Hazen made the start on the back line. Western Michigan (2-1-1 MAC, 8-6-4) will prepare for the Mid-American Conference Tournament that is set to begin on Nov. 14. The game time and opponent have yet to be determined.
Oakland: The Grizzlies clinched the Horizon League, regular-season title after playing to a 2-2 draw against Valparaiso on Friday. Shawn Lawsonscored Oakland’s second goal of the match, and Joey Tinnion and Raphael Reynolds added a shot each to the stat sheet. The Grizzlies (5-0-3 Horizon, 7-6-3 overall) will host and play in the semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. Their opponent has yet to be determined.
Detroit: Matt Ybarra recorded five shots in the Titans’ 2-0 loss to Milwaukee on Friday. Cameron Roberts also earned a spot in the starting 11. Detroit (6-2 Horizon, 9-6-4) still earned a spot in the Horizon League Tournament that is set to begin on Nov. 13. Its opponent and the kick off time have yet to be determined.
Coastal Carolina: Bret Mollon’s Chanticleers capped off their regular-season schedule with a 7-0 drubbing against Longwood on Saturday. Three days earlier, Coastal Carolina earned a 1-1 draw against High Point. Looking ahead, the Chanticleers (6-1-1 Big South, 12-5-1) will play Longwood on Nov. 11 in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament. If they win, the semifinals are slated for Nov. 14 and the championship game will be played on Nov. 16. All match times have yet to be determined.
