Michigan State: The Spartans picked up a pair of wins this week, beating Akron 1-0 Tuesday and edging out Wisconsin 2-1 on Saturday. Kylie Stannard and Ben Pirmann’s squad (2-1-1 Big Ten, 7-2-2 overall) sits in third place in the Big Ten. Michigan State will look ahead to an Oct. 15 match against Western Michigan in East Lansing at 4 p.m. before traveling to play at Penn State on Oct. 18 for a 7 p.m. kick off.
Michigan: After scoring just two goals in its past five games, the Wolverines (2-1-2 Big Ten, 4-5-1 overall) upended No. 6 Notre Dame, 3-2, behind a Colin McAtee hat trick on Tuesday in Ann Arbor. Tyler Arnone and William Mellors-Blair each picked up an assist, while Nick Lewin played a full 90 minutes on the back line. Saturday, the core of DCFC players paced Michigan to a 3-0 victory over Rutgers. Mellors-Blair netted his first two career goals and tacked on an assist, while McAtee continued this week’s offensive outburst with another goal. Arnone added an assist in the weekend victory, and Lewin earned another start. The Wolverines, now riding a three-game winning streak, travel to Akron on Sept. 14 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Saginaw Valley State: The Cardinals thrashed Malone 4-1 on Friday, thanks to a pair of goals from Aleksander Isaevski. Craig Neal earned the assist on both of Isaevski’s tallies, and Zach Vasold added an assist of his own on SVSU’s second goal. Sunday, Saginaw Valley State (7-0-2 GLIAC, 10-0-2 overall) earned a lopsided, 5-1 win over Walsh College. Isaevski picked up a goal and an assist, and Neal recorded his third helper in two games. The Cardinals play at Lake Erie at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17 and at Ohio Dominican at 2 p.m. on Oct. 19.
Butler: The Bulldogs (0-3-0 Big East, 4-5-3 overall) nearly completed a comeback against No. 9 Creighton on Saturday, but ended up falling 2-1.Jeff Adkins recorded one shot in the loss. This week, Butler will look to get back on track when it hosts Marquette at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 before travelling to DePaul on Oct. 18 for a 2 p.m. start.
Western Michigan: In its conference opener Friday, Western Michigan earned a 2-2 draw at Buffalo. Connor Furgason recorded one assist, andSean Hazen had one shot on goal. Looking ahead, the Broncos (0-0-1 MAC, 6-3-3 overall) will take on Michigan State at 4 p.m. on Oct. 15, and they host Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. on Oct. 18.
Oakland: The Grizzlies enjoyed two 1-0 victories this week, over Ohio State on Wednesday and at Cleveland State on Saturday. Joey Tinnionscored the game-winning goal against the Buckeyes, and the trio of Tinnion, Shawn Lawson and Raphael Reynolds earned the start in both victories. Oakland (3-0-1 Horizon League, 4-5-1 overall) is now riding a four-game winning streak, and plays at Milwaukee at 8 p.m. on Oct. 15 before hosting Belmont on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
Detroit: Cameron Roberts and Matt Ybarra combined for four shots in the Titans’ 1-1 draw against IPFW on Tuesday. Responding nicely, though, Detroit (3-1-0 Horizon League, 6-4-2 overall) defeated Green Bay 3-0 on Saturday, thanks to a goal and an assist coming from Ybarra. The Titans host Valparaiso on Oct. 15 for an 8:30 p.m. kickoff.
Coastal Carolina: Bret Mollon’s Chanticleers earned two shutout victories this week. Tuesday’s 2-0 result against Presbyterian and Saturday’s 4-0 win over UNC Asheville keep Coastal Carolina atop the Big South standings with a 3-0-0 conference record, along with an overall mark of 9-3-0. The Chanticleers travel to play Clemson on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m., and at Liberty on Oct. 18 at noon.
