Ryan Williams has rejoined the club, signing a contract keeping him in the Rouge and Gold through the 2026 season.
After spending time in England, Wales, Scotland, Canada, Brazil, and Sweden, Williams has settled in Detroit for the past two seasons, playing in 55 games for Le Rouge. So far in his DCFC career, Williams has picked up two goals and added an assist to his name.
Before joining Detroit City, Williams spent three seasons with Swedish side AFC Eskilstuna. Across 50 games played for the second-tier Swedish side, Williams picked up one goal and one assist across 3,536 minutes played.
Williams had two separate stints in the USL Championship before joining DCFC. The first came in 2016, when Williams joined Ottawa Fury FC during the summer transfer window. He would make 18 appearances that season, netting four goals, leading to him being named the Fury’s Fans’ Player of the Year. Williams would make an additional 20 appearances in 2017 and added five more goals and two assists to his career total. He returned to the USL Championship in 2019 after stints in Brazil and England, playing for Hartford Athletic, where he scored 4 goals and recorded 2 assists in 27 matches over one season.
The Birkenhead, England native graduated from the youth academy of Chester City. He would then spend time in Wales with Colwyn Bay, Llandudno, and Rhyl. Williams was named in the Cymru Alliance Team of the Year twice, once with Llandudno and once with Rhyl. He would return to England in 2013 and join Morecambe FC, where he made 61 appearances over two-and-a-half years with the Shrimps. In his time at Morecambe, he scored six goals and added four assists. He would move on to Brentford FC in the 2015-16 season and would ultimately end up in Scotland with Inverness Caledonian Thistle of the Scottish Premiership. From there, Williams would have stints at Paysandu of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B and Tranmere Rovers of League Two.
