Le Rouge nets four on the road in Kalamazoo to earn three points in the Great Lakes division.
KALAMAZOO, Michigan – The Detroit City Football Club downed Kalamazoo FC on Saturday night, 4-2, at Mayor’s Riverfront Park in a USL W League Great Lakes division showdown. Forward Kenna White earned Woman of the match plaudits netting a goal and recording two assists.
Le Rouge (3-3-3) wasted no time taking control of the match, as 2021’s MVP midfielder Madison Duncan netted her second of the season in the fourth minute. City had a great build up into the attacking third before White laid it off to Duncan on the wing, who then took over with the dribble and curled it to the top left corner.
Just a few minutes later, it was forward Kayla Addison recording her second tally of the campaign. White found Addison making a run across the penalty area who then finished the left-footed strike off the top of the bar and in.
Kalamazoo (2-1-5) began to settle in after surrendering the second goal, building up more possession into the attacking third but couldn’t find the final pass until the 27th minute. Bailey Korhorn put it away for her eighth goal in eight outings. Grace Labadie played Korhorn into the 18-yard box and she snuck it past City goalkeeper Becca Przyzbylo on the near post.
Shannon McCarthy, who recently moved up from the backline into the midfield, put Le Rouge back up two with a strike from the top of the area in the 33rd. After winning the ball in midfield, White played forward Brynn Gardner out wide. With Addison making a run toward the far post, Gardner elected to play it back to the trailing McCarthy who netted her second in as many games.
Moments later, Przyzbylo – making her 2022 debut – made the save of the match as Kalamazoo found Korhorn in the box following a corner. From point blank range, Przyzbylo denied the division’s top scorer from a brace.
Much of the second half tilted into Detroit’s defensive end but nothing that would test Przyzbylo. Korhorn had a dangerous opportunity, taking the ball from her right to left foot in the area but sent the strike just wide.
White – Detroit City’s all-time leading scorer – found the back of the net in the 87th minute after forward Ellie Pool’s shot took a deflection off a Kalamazoo defender and landed at the feet of White following the play.
Labadie was able to bring Kalamazoo to within two in the final moments of the outing, beating Przyzbylo to a ball played in front of the frame from the left sideline.
Le Rouge returns to Keyworth on Tuesday, June 28, to host Midwest United. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
