This morning, the USL Championship announced that Detroit City FC (DCFC) goalkeeper Carlos Herrera has been named the 2026 Golden Glove, awarded annually to the league’s best goalkeeper.
Herrera, in his second season with Detroit City FC, totaled 55 saves over the course of the regular season. His 14 clean sheets and 0.63 goals allowed average led the league.
“It speaks to the level of togetherness of this group because as much as it is an individual award given to the player, I believe that I would have never done that without the entire group, the staff, everyone, so, it’s a reflection of who we are as a team. Being focused for every single game.” said Herrera, “Every single minute. Every single play.”
Herrera was a major contributing factor to Detroit City FC’s stellar season, as Le Rouge allowed the fewest goals in the league, at 21, and allowed just two open play goals at home all season – the least goals conceded at home in a regular season by any USL Championship club since 2019. Detroit City FC’s defense helped lead them to the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference and a 14-8-7 overall record.
Herrera is the first Detroit City FC player to be honored with an individual award since 2022, when Antoine Hoppenot was named the league’s Assists Champion.
Up Next: Le Rouge will host Hartford Athletic on Friday, October 30th at 8:00pm at Keyworth Stadium.
