DETROIT, Mich. – Detroit City FC (DCFC) travels to Lynn Family Stadium this weekend to close out the USL Championship regular season at 7:00pm, facing Louisville City FC for the fourth time in 2026.
Le Rouge looks to finish the regular season strong, following a 1-0 loss at Tampa Bay Rowdies last weekend. With a win, Detroit City FC can clinch the 2nd seed in the upcoming USL Championship Playoffs. Louisville City FC comes off a Wednesday night victory over Sporting Jax to secure the #4 spot, and clinch an opening round home playoff match of their own.
Saturday looks to be another tight defensive battle, with three total goals scored in the previous three matchups between the teams in 2026. Carlos Herrera, tied for first in the league in clean sheets with thirteen, returns to the field for Le Rouge, following his one game suspension for a red card. Herrera has been in net for each of the previous three matchups, holding Louisville to one total goal. In May’s 2-1 Detroit City FC victory, Haruki Yamazaki forced a Louisville City FC own goal and Connor Rutz played the hero, scoring the winner in the 70th minute.
Availability
Connor Rutz and Preston Tabort-Etaka are listed as out for Detroit City FC. Ryan Williams, Ben Morris, Kian Williams, Rio Hope-Gund, and Maxi Rodriguez are all listed as questionable.
Storylines
Home Field Advantage: With Louisville City FC’s win over Sporting Jax on Wednesday, both teams have guaranteed a home playoff game, meaning Saturday’s match will be for positioning in the standings for the playoffs. Detroit City FC can finish in either second or third place, while Louisville City FC has guaranteed the fourth seed for the playoffs. Herrera Returns: Le Rouge goalkeeper Carlos Herrera returns to the field on Saturday following his suspension for a red card against Rhode Island FC. Herrera is tied for the league lead in clean sheets on the season, with thirteen.
A Familiar Face: Saturday’s matchup will be the fourth meeting between the teams in 2026. In two league matches, Detroit City FC has taken home four points over a win and a draw. Louisville City FC won June’s USL Cup matchup in penalties.
A Historic Upset: At Lynn Family Field in 2025, eight-seed Detroit City FC upset top-seeded Louisville City FC in the first round of the USL Championship playoffs. A goal from Devon Amoo-Mensah put Le Rouge on top, and a valiant defensive effort sent Detroit City FC to the second round.
