Detroit City FC earned a pivotal 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday night, as Kian Williams scored the decisive second-half goal to give Le Rouge three crucial points in the Eastern Conference race on a rain-soaked night at Keyworth Stadium.
The win holds significant value as the regular season enters its final stretch. After recent results against fellow Eastern Conference contenders Tampa Bay, Louisville City, and Hartford Athletic, Detroit City’s victory over Pittsburgh provides another important result against a direct postseason rival. The three points can help Le Rouge maintain its place near the top of the crowded conference standings and continue its push for a top-four finish and home-field advantage in the USL Championship Playoffs.
Detroit City sported their 2026 charity kits for the match – an all-green design that paid homage to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen. All proceeds from these limited-edition kits, and game-worn jerseys available for auction will directly support the charitable organization, a DCFC tradition dating back to 2013.
After a physical, scoreless first half, Detroit City made its first attacking substitution in the 64th minute, bringing Kian Williams on for Jeciel Cedeño. Le Rouge continued to press for the breakthrough, making two more changes in the 72nd minute as Alex Dalou replaced Ates Diouf and Cheikhou Niang made his Keyworth debut, entering for Abdoulaye Diop.
The breakthrough came one minute later. Haruki Yamazaki created the opening with a perfectly-placed header which Williams finished in the 73rd minute to put Detroit City ahead. Williams’ goal was his first for Le Rouge, while Yamazaki registered his third assist of the season.
Detroit City then saw out the result with a composed defensive effort, with Carlos Herrera securing his eleventh clean sheet on the season, all behind a drenched but vocal Keyworth crowd.
