Detroit City FC’s W League side capped an all-road week with a point in Grand Rapids, drawing 1-1 at Midwest United FC on Saturday night after a narrow 1-0 defeat midweek at Union FC Macomb. The result moves City to 2-1-1 on the young season after opening the campaign with two straight wins.
City’s perfect start met its first speed bump on Wednesday, May 27, as Union FC Macomb edged out a tight 1-0 result at Barnabo Field. Le Rouge defended well for long stretches and created moments going forward, but a single breakthrough for the hosts proved the difference on a night where margins were razor thin.
Detroit responded with a composed performance on the road at Midwest United FC to close the week. Erin Torrence put City in front in the 53rd minute, slotting home a breakaway finish to make it 1-0. Allison LaPoint backed that lead with a standout showing in goal, registering 11 saves as Midwest pushed numbers forward in search of a response.
Midwest United FC finally found its leveler in the 88th minute when Ava Lutke converted late, denying Detroit all three points and forcing the sides to split the spoils. Even with the late setback, City’s ability to take something from a second straight road fixture, on the heels of a midweek loss, underlined the group’s resilience.
