After a six month off-season, Detroit City FC will finally return to its home pitch at Cass Tech High School on Saturday night. In the final tune-up before its fourth season in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) kicks off, Le Rouge will host the Muskegon Risers Soccer Club, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. This match also marks the arrival of many of Le Rouge’s collegiate players.

With two preseason friendlies already under the team’s belt, Saturday’s final preseason match will serve as continued preparation for a busy week ahead, including a U.S. Open Cup match against the Michigan Bucks at 7:30 p.m. on May 13 in Pontiac, Mich., and an NPSL opener against A.F.C. Cleveland at Cass Tech at 7:30 p.m. on May 15.

For the Risers, Saturday marks the independent club’s first-ever match. Muskegon’s head coach David Wood has assembled a team of internationals, with multiple players coming from South Africa and Europe.

Last weekend at Hurley Field in Berkley, Mich., DCFC battled to a 1-0 loss against Michigan State in front of 1,108 supporters, with the lone goal of the match coming on a header from a long throw-in just after the halftime break. Defender Zach Schewee (Bowling Green) earned the M1 Imaging Man of the Match award for an all around solid performance. He created a handful of goal-scoring chances down the left flank and held his own in the defensive half. The season opener brought a much different result, a 3-3 draw versus Saginaw Valley in front of 1,012 supporters, in which Zach Myers (SVSU), Seb Harris (Oakland) and George Chomakov (Schoolcraft C.C.) each found a way to put the ball in the back of the net.

Individual tickets for Saturday’s match, as well as tickets for the rest of Le Rouge’s 2015 home matches, cost $10 and are available online at and at the entry gate at Cass Tech. All home friendly matches are free for season ticket holders.
