Bridgeview, IL (August 29, 2021) - Detroit City FC made the trip to Bridgeview, IL to face off against Chicago House AC. Match four of the NISA fall season was a rematch of the season opener when Le Rouge came away with a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
Detroit Cityplayed in SeatGeek Stadium for the first time, and the home side was the first to have opportunities near goal. Despite that fact, nothing truly dangerous was made of the attempts. The closest look to goal for either side came in the 30th minute when #22 Kevin Venegas sent a free kick that glanced off the top of the crossbar and out for a goal kick.
Another great chance for City came by the way of #2 Jimmy Filerman who sent his defender to the ground with a smooth dribble as he advanced into the opposition penalty area. He delivered a pass in front of goal but it was blocked by the House defense and eventually cleared.
While no save was particularly troubling for #1 Nate Steinwascher to make, he recorded three saves in the first half.
The second half started similar to the first. Chances came for both sides out of the gate but nothing goal-worthy. As the half progressed, City’s increased pressure, both offensive and defensive, began to lead to Chicago turnovers and frustration.
Eventually the momentum City was gaining would create a real opportunity. #21 Maxi Rodriguez deftly brought a ball down in the box and sent the Chicago defender marking him in the wrong direction. This led to a wayward tackle that sent Rodriguez to the ground and the ref pointing to the spot for a penalty.
Rodriguez stepped up to take the penalty and he confidently slotted it home past the Chicago keeper. [VIDEO HERE]
With the 1-0 lead, City looked to keep up their offensive pressure. The team would quickly transition to offense and create danger through quickly built counterattacks. In the waning minutes of the match, House attempted to get forward but found no real attacking avenues as the Le Rouge defense was too quick in closing down everything in front of them. Le Rouge then settled nicely into some possession to see out the match.
Detroit City FC, now 3-1-0 in the fall season, will head to Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, FL to take on Chattanooga FC on Saturday, September 4 with kickoff set for 7:30 pm ET.
