Detroit City FC Women Beat Lansing United 6-1

EAST LANSING, MI (May 22, 2021) - Detroit City Football Club played the second match of their 2021 UWS season in high temperatures at the East Lansing soccer complex on Sunday afternoon.

Things started quickly for the Le Rouge offense in this match. In just the 9th minute, #24 Kenna White was through on goal and calmly slotted her shot right past the Lansing United goalkeeper. Just three minutes later, after a ball came loose in front of the goal after a corner kick, #29 Madison Wolfbauer was in the right position to tap the ball home. 

Already up 2-0, City would find a third goal with the last kick of the half when #15 Margaret Berry chipped the ball over the keeper and off the post to increase the Le Rouge lead to three goals.

To begin the second half, Lansing United made three changes to their eleven. For City, #3 Brooke Honeycutt left the match for #43 Mami Yamaguchi. City’s offense kept clicking with successful through balls finding players penetrating the Lansing United defense. In the 51st minute, Wolfbauer was through on goal and scored her second of the match to put City up 4-0.

In the 53rd minute, #34 Syd Smith was subbed on for #24 Kenna White. Not long later, Yamaguchi found herself through on goal to put her team up 5-0 with a shot placed in the top corner of the goal.

Eventually, the city defense would be cracked. In the 62nd minute, United struck with a quick attack that was finished off by #4 Cameryn Evans.

City would find yet another goal just before the scheduled second-half water break. In the 68th minute, a loose ball would end up in the back of the net and was credited to #11 Elissa Baeron. With the score of 6-1, Baeron also continued to have a standout game leading the defensive line with plenty of tackles and balls poked from defender’s feet.

To see the match out, City swapped goalkeepers with No. 13 Riley Moore coming on for #1 Becca Pryzbylo. #18 Lillian Lucas and #26 Caroline Flemming also entered the match for Le Rouge. 

When the full-time whistle blew the match would finish 6-1. Detroit City Football Club. now 2-0-0 in UWS, are continuing their season back in Detroit as they face Corktown AFC on May 26 at the Corner Ballpark at 7:30 p.m.
