Detroit City FC’s return of 20 points from 12 matches was enough to get them into the National Premier Soccer League playoffs in their inaugural season of play. They led the Great Lakes Division with the highest positive goal differential with +16 thanks to a staunch backline which conceded five less goals than the second best defense in the division and a dangerous attacking players such as Adam Bedell and Kyle Bethel who would both contribute greatly to Le Rouge’s 26 goals scored in 12 regular season matches.
Playoffs
July 14, 2012
Loss, 2-1
Goal for Detroit City FC scored by Kyle Bethel (5).

Detroit City FC’s inaugural season would come to a heartbreaking end on the road in the playoffs. Worse yet it would come at the hands of the club who seemingly had their number all season, AFC Cleveland. Le Rouge had a record of 0-2-2 against AFC Cleveland with this, the second loss coming in the first round of the NPSL Great Lakes Playoffs. Cleveland scored the match-winning goal in second half stoppage time with a clever free-kick which found its way into the back of the net. The heartbreak was doubled as Le Rouge thought they found the late late equalizer, only for it to be ruled off due to offsides.
